In her column on works of history published in the TT Express of April 11, 2024, Professor Bridget Brereton gave a great review of Dr. Joanne Collins-Gonsalves's book Iris de Freitas Brazao, Legal Luminary and Trailblazer: Caribbean, Canada, Wales, England 1896-1989.
Prof. Bridget Brereton in her article titled A trailblazing Caribbean Woman noted that "it is a tribute to the author's [Dr. Joanne Collins-Gonsalves] patient and dogged research that she has managed to tell so much of Iris' remarkable story ... The reader will learn a great deal about 20th-century and contemporary Guyana. But it is primarily the story of a Caribbean woman who dared to enter an ancient profession, traditionally a male preserve, and faced down difficulties and prejudice to carve out her career. [...] Now, thanks to Joanne Collins-Gonsalves, we can learn her full story."
